Punta de Chimino is considered one of the last capitals of the Petexbatún regime occupied by the Maya elite of the late classic period. It contains important structures like a Temple with False Arch Vault, Large Platforms and an Important Ball Game. It was a peninsula that was excavated to become an artificial island in order to protect itself from neighboring enemies.
Be ready to explore the unbeaten path of Guatemala. The Petexbatún Lagoon is definitely a destiny not known to many travelers but the arrival is part of the whole journey. First stop Sayaxché, and then a 1 hour boat ride will take you directly to the lodge.
More than 200 bird species have been reported in the Petexbatún area. Bird watching is mostly done by boat and every ride is an opportuniy to spot unique species like: Bat Falcon
